Right, so I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a pretty long time now and I’ve began to find I have a lot of free time on my hands, so why not start one now?
Hi I’m Keely! Most of you probably have no idea who the hell I am or even care but that’s fine I’ll probably just ramble on anyway in the hopes that at least one person gets something out of what I have to write about.
So I should probably tell you about why I decided to create this blog and answer the question you are all so keen to know about… “Why the hell did she call her blog that?” Well a few weeks ago I found out that I didn’t make it into the course of study I wanted to do for my second year of University. At the end of 2016 I applied for Teachers College at The University of Otago. All was going to plan until they emailed me back telling me that my birth certificate was out of date and I would have to apply for a new one. Sounds easy right? Well, it was just my luck that the same time I got that email was the exact same time the big November Earthquake struck Kaikoura/Christchurch and Birth, Deaths and Marriages were only taking Emergency circumstances. I applied for my birth certificate and asked for it to be couriered because I needed it asap only for it to end up in my mail box like 2/3 weeks late. That was pretty shitty… anyway I scanned it and sent it away to the University and within a week I had had a reply saying I was just too late and they couldn’t accept me. As you can imagine I was pretty frustrated but hey, thats life and life can be pretty shitty sometimes!
So now that you know what the title is all about I’ll let you know why I decided to create this blog thingy. I know you’re all probably thinking “she’ll probably just write about how depressed she is all the time because she didn’t get into uni.” I know I would be if I was reading someone else’s blog that was called ‘A life without University.’ But, I’ve decided that instead of dwelling on the negative impacts this event will have on my life why not focus on the positive? I mean I have so much free time now (sort of) to work on myself and the goals I want to achieve so why not make the most of the year off right? I thought I might list a few things I want to tick off the bucket list this year:
- Go overseas – Whether it be to the islands or to China, I don’t mind but I seriously need to feed the thirst I’ve been having for travel lately!
- Tramp the Fiordlands with Isabelle – This one might have to be an end of year thing… I don’t fancy hiking in freezing cold weather conditions.
- Start playing competitive sport again – Might explain this one on another blog post later on in the month.
- Learn how to not be as awkward in random social settings – I’ve been finding that I am the most awkward person ever and never reciprocate questions. I answer what I can and do the best to avoid situations. Can you do workshops on this kind of stuff hahaha?
- Try new foods – I love food but always stay within my same food bubble… it’s definitely time to expand on my horizons.
I’m sure there are heaps more but I can’t think right now so I’ll have to get back to you on that one. Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it to the end Look forward to updating you on my adventures for the year <3
